The Inn's Story
Long before Aetheryte crystals revolutionized travel across Hydaelyn, there existed a network of mystical doors, all connected by a single main door at a hidden inn. This singular door was the key to a powerful portal system that allowed adventurers, merchants, and diplomats to travel to distant cities without the need for Aetheryte teleportation. The main door, powered by the hearth’s magic, was the only way to access the network—each twist of a dial beside it determined the exit destination, opening to a separate door in each cityThe hearth, however, was no ordinary flame. It was an arcane engine of magic and gears, a complex assembly of enchanted mechanisms and aetheric currents that allowed the portal to function. This engine was created by a secretive order of mages who believed that the power of connection—both physical and spiritual—was the most important force in the world. In their wisdom, they designed the Everdoor Inn as a crossroads between nations and people, centered around a hearth that would fuel the magic needed to guide the door to the right place.
But as Aetheryte crystals became the preferred means of travel, the mystical door and its hearth were abandoned. The inn fell into disrepair, its once vibrant flame slowly dying out, and the door became a forgotten relic of a bygone age. Over time, knowledge of the inn's existence faded from memory, and it remained dormant, its doors sealed off and lost in time.
It wasn't until recently that Rihn'To Molkot, an ambitious Miqo'te, discovered the inn in Ishgard's Empyreum ward. With a passion for ancient mysteries and a keen eye for the arcane, Rihn felt drawn to the inn’s dormant hearth. After researching its history and uncovering fragments of forgotten texts left in the Inn’s crumbling library, he realized that the inn's magic could be restored, if he could collect the ancient objects from each city that served as anchors to the portal network.
These objects, once lost to time, were the key to reigniting the hearth and reactivating the door’s connection to the other cities. Rihn's journey to retrieve them took him across Hydaelyn, uncovering long-buried secrets of the inn and its former patrons. As he returned with each object, the flame of the hearth grew brighter, and the gears turned once more, reawakening the powerful connection that would allow the single door to once again open to many.
Though the inn has been restored, its true history remains a secret, known only to those few who dare to seek out its mysteries. The inn’s past, steeped in hidden knowledge, is not widely spoken of, and the portal network—though functional—is a relic of a time long past. The inn is a place of both wonder and danger, holding within it the echoes of travelers long forgotten and the whispers of an ancient order whose influence still lingers in the shadows.(OOC: If you wish to tie your character's story to that of the Inn, please speak to Rihn.♥)
